In today's lecture, we are going to look into how a forest's light environment interacts with tree architecture. Removed trees via natural or human disturbances alter not only the available light, but temperature, moisture, and nutrient quantities. Depending on the tree species, trees with strong apical control will take up a different growth pattern compared to species with weak apical control. We will look at these patterns and hopefully be able to better understand forest ecology from the perspective of the forest floor.
